About the Green Schools Challenge:

The US Green Building Council SW Virginia Chapter is challenging selected SW Virginia schools to devise and implement, with the help of professional Green Mentors, the most creative, effective and no or low cost sustainable practices for their schools & communities. The other three Virginia Chapters are also implementing a similar project as a means to Green all Virginia Schools within this generation.

The challenge will launch on October 20, 2010 at our annual Connect the Dots program in Roanoke in collaboration with the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA). Volunteer Green Mentors selected by our chapter will work with the students and teachers in the schools to guide and educate them in green facilities practices. The program conclusion will be May 1, 2011 in conjunction with the annual Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) conference. Outstanding achievements will be recognized, rewarded and posted for education purposes on our newly created website.
