Where:
Roanoke City Market Building - Roanoke
Category:
Chapter Event

Description

Did you know that buildings consume some 71% of the electricity produced in the US? Buildings that are not well insulated and that leak conditioned air can be energy hogs that cost owners money, make its occupants uncomfortable, reduce indoor air quality and sap our energy resources. Would you like to actually see images of energy leaking from some buildings and then discuss it with high performance building experts?

Interested?   Then join us for our monthly chapter meeting and a walking tour of several downtown buildings using thermal imaging cameras, which will graphically demonstrate heat loss from these buildings. We will meet in the mezzanine of the Roanoke City Market Building for a brief meeting and tour orientation session and then conduct the tour viewing buildings such as the Taubman Museum, the recently renovated Market Building and several others. We will conclude the program where we started with complimentary warm refreshments, at which time we will present the infra-red images and discuss building energy conservation for our community.

What is a thermal imaging camera? Thermal imaging cameras or thermal imagers are devices that translate thermal energy (heat) into visible light (color) in order to analyze a particular object or scene. The image produced by thermal imaging cameras is known as a thermogram and is analyzed through a process called thermography. Thermal imagers can be used to analyze buildings for heat loss, moisture damage, and other costly flaws. Imagers used for building inspections generally do not require larger temperature ranges but do require high thermal sensitivity.
